About

I’m an artist and teacher passionate about Islamic mysticism, art and nature connection and their potential for healing and positive change.
Much of my work explores the geometric structures and flowing forms found in nature and traditional Islamic patterns. I find within them a visual language that can express our inner symbolic landscapes.
I was born into an Anglo/American Sufi Muslim family and travelled widely in my childhood, living around the UK, Texas, New Mexico, Andalucia and Jordan, and traveling widely in the Middle East. I’d lived in 13 different houses and 4 different countries by the time I was 15! These diverse experiences of different landscapes, people and living in experimental mystical communities have informed and enriched my work and also given me a yearning to put down firm roots.
I studied art and architecture at the Princes School of Traditional Arts when I was 19 and went on to study fine art at Northumbria university in 2001, I have been practicing as an artist and art teacher ever since, worked as a nature mentor in the beautiful Ashdown Forest area of East Sussex since 2017 and run a small home education and art school (www.creativehearth.co.uk) from my studio nestled in an idyllic creative community in Sussex, UK.
I live on a biodynamic farm next to the Ashdown Forest with my husband, 14 year old son, 4 year old daughter and 3 cats. I love being with my family, gardening, reading books on mysticism, growing loving community and attempting to make carpets. I am a student at Tobias School of Art and Therapy where I am training to become an Art Therapist.
